Prof. Hirotaka Kitoh-Nishioka got the Doctor of Science (Ph.D.) degree in March 2006 from the Graduate School of Science at Nagoya University, under the supervision of Professor Toshiaki Kakitani (now Professor Emeritus, Nagoya University).

Following the completion of their doctorate, they held a series of research positions:

  • Postdoctoral Fellow, Graduate School of Integrative Science and Technology, Meijo University (April 2006)
  • Postdoctoral Fellow, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University (April 2009)
  • Postdoctoral Fellow, Graduate School of Science, Nagoya University (April 2013)
  • Researcher, Center for Computational Sciences, University of Tsukuba (April 2016)
  • PRESTO Researcher, JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) (from October 2017, concurrently holding a researcher position at the Center for Computational Sciences, University of Tsukuba, from April 2019 to September 2020)
  • Specially Appointed Associate Professor, Graduate School of System Informatics, Kobe University (from October 2020, concurrently with JST PRESTO until March 2021)
  • Visiting Associate Professor, Graduate School of System Informatics, Kobe University (from April 2022 to March 2025)

Since April 2022, he has held his current position.

His research specializes in first-principles studies of electron transfer and excitation energy transfer processes in organic semiconductors and biological systems, utilizing quantum chemical calculations, quantum statistical mechanics, and computer simulations.
